Alex & O

Yesterday J had to go do some work over at his mom’s house. When he was on his way home he called me and said that it must be O’s lucky day. The surprise we had been talking about for her was ready. He wanted to tell her but I said wait until you get here - let’s save it until the last minute.

30 minutes later J pulled in the driveway, called O over and presented her with this:

That expression on her face made it so worth it. You see we lost a cat 2 years ago, Peanut, and he was O’s cat. O tends to be high strung and difficult for the other kids to get along with but that cat was her best friend. He developed a clotting problem that caused him a great deal of pain, the prognosis was poor and we had no choice but to have him euthanized. Even after 2 years she still misses him terribly and talks about him all the time.

So when we heard a friend of A’s had kittens to place we decided it was time to get O a new friend. They were 6 weeks old as of this weekend and he was the only male in the litter. We have 2 male cats already and know from past experience that the boys would beat up on a girl so we wanted another male. A scooped him up yesterday to be sure we got him. O named him Alex.

When J handed Alex to O he said “Here’s your new kitten O.” Our youngest L said “Where’s my kitten Daddy?” Oh boy.

    I ADORE semi-white kitties. SQUEE!!! I have one that looks a lot like that. He’s at my parents house, as I got him while I was in jr high. I miss him so much.

    I bet she loved her surprise!
