Can I Just Get 5 Minutes - Please?
November 25, 2007 |
I got up at 7am this morning - Sunday morning - so I could have a little bit of time to myself. It’s Sunday people! I went through my regular routine. I made coffee, I went down to open the damper on the wood stove and threw in some more wood to warm the house up. I went back upstairs to sit down at my computer and do a little writing. Writing that has been stalled for months and months. Writing that I am craving lately almost as much as I crave chocolate. By the time I get my can in the chair my youngest shows up and is sitting down at the table next to me.
“I’m hungry. I want some cereal. Please.”
I encourage her to lie down on the couch and watch cartoons for a bit in the hopes she’ll fall back to sleep seeing as how the children were up until nearly midnight last night. She’s under the blanket, her eyes are closing, the “Upside Down Show” is on Noggin - things are looking good. I walk into the kitchen to get my coffee when I hear my bedroom door open and someone stumble down the hallway. My husband. Crap. He kicks my daughter off the couch and onto the love seat.
“Honey, can I have some coffee? And can you get me my medication when you have a minute?”
And so it begins. My day that doesn’t quit. A constant flurry of activity and refereeing. I get up early in the morning to try to get a few minutes to myself, I stay up late at night. But no matter what I do, these people - they find me.

Nice to be needed - at least sometimes it’s nice.
Have a good Sunday!
Sounds familiar!
They are lucky to have such a nice wife/mother.
awww don’t you wish you could’ve gone back to bed for a sleep in yourself?
hope you get that 5mins … my husband wonders why I stay up till midnight
I hate morning that start like that. Sometimes I wonder should we get up earlier or stay up later. It seems most day we (moms/wives) have to do both..lol
Good to see you back.
I can so relate. I get up at 4:30 or 5 am every day of the week just to get some me time. I really NEED an hour with my coffee and my computer before I want to talk to anyone.
The key is to *leave the house.*
Go to a coffeeshop and work your butt off for an hour or two. You’ll be amazed how much you get done.
Run … run far, far away. OK — just lock yourself in the bathroom for an hour. It’s sorta the same.
