We got the latest decision from unemployment in the mail today - denied. Here’s the catch 22 that is making Jeff crazy - he has to have a medical reason to justify leaving his job but now they are saying he is not eligible for benefits because he has a medical condition that prevents him from being able to work. WTF?
We are in a war of semantics with this stupid government agency. His paperwork says he can’t use his left hand until he gets clearance from his doctor. The adjudication board says that they have reached the conclusion, in their omnipotent wisdom, that he is not able to work at all and therefore is ineligible. He called them this afternoon, furious, and told them to get their heads out of their asses and read the paper. It doesn’t say he can’t work - only that he can’t use his left hand for a few weeks. He can answer phones with his right hand, he can flip burgers with his right hand, there is plenty he can do.
It is phenomenally frustrating! Unemployment tells us to go to Workmen’s Comp, Workmen’s Comp tells us to go to Disability, Disability tells us to go to Unemployment!!! I hate government agencies - HATE them! They all cover their own asses at the expense of the people they are supposed to help.
Meanwhile we get more and more desperate for money to pay all the bills while the idiots in the capitol of our great state treat my husband like he’s some kind of loser trying not to work and get money for it. We feel rotten enough and do not need some bitch that doesn’t know what the hell she’s talking about passing judgment on my husband. The man worked at that job for 14 years - 14 years!!! and this is how he gets treated. It’s disgusting.
It makes me so angry to see Jeff hurt over and over again. I know we have had our share of problems but he is a good man. He stuck with that job long after he should have for his family’s sake and it’s hard now to understand why he even bothered.

Oh hun. I am so very sorry.

I second that one too, it totally sucks, is there anyone or an agency you can try which is higher up?

I just started reading this blog. I certainly sympathize with the money pinch. We were in this boat last year with a brand new baby and it was awful. Hang in there! I know such comments sound disingenuous, but things can and do turn around for people.

So sorry. I hope you can straighten out this mess. And I hope that when you do, the money is retroactive from the day you started this rat race.
Hang in there!
