Forced Remodeling
October 9, 2008 |
Thanks guys for all of your good thoughts and encouragement. As for the eye and stuff, I don’t really think I’m having a stroke but honestly, I’m all for Stacie’s idea of “having a stroke” so I can get a little quiet time in a hospital somewhere. *wink, wink*
I stayed home from work yesterday so some people could come demolish my downstairs. We got flooded out a few weeks ago due to a plugged toilet and the thingy in the toilet tank that’s supposed to stop the running water got caught and didn’t stop the running water. You totally understood that, right? And now that you do you’re totally grossed out, right? Yeah, I was too. Except there wasn’t any raw sewage on the floor - just a lot of toilet water - maybe 4-6 inches worth.
So after fighting with the insurance company about how this was not flood damage due to torrential rains and a naturally occurring disaster we finally got the go ahead. Everything had been dried out the day after the flood happened but nothing had been torn up. So carpets were pulled (they were old anyway) and sheetrock was ripped out and baseboards were pulled off. Floors were treated, 2×4’s were treated, bathroom was scrubbed (cool! I hate that job!) and now my basement looks like a cave with concrete floors. It echoes in my basement. Very weird.
See we had a totally finished basement complete with family room and my son’s bedroom. Unusable since “the flood”. The carpet guy came in yesterday afternoon after the demo was done and measured everything, called me this morning with a quote of 3g’s. Thank God it’s not my money. Like I’d ever have that much at once anyway. Did I mention there are 5 kids living here? I’m lucky to have 3 pennies in my wallet.
So carpet goes in next week and then the husband is going to take our family room and frame it off into 2 (temporary) bedrooms. One for the new kid and one for our oldest girl. She so needs her own room. The worst thing I ever did to her was have two more children after she was born. She has made it crystal clear that she was so meant to be an only child.
So as upset as I was about the ruination of the basement - I was thinking the other day that maybe it happened for a reason. Maybe the universe knew that the little kid was going to come live with us for a while and wanted to be sure we had the motivation to make him his own room. Not that we lack motivation or anything. *wink, wink* Anyway, remodeling is kind of fun. For me anyway. The husband does the work and I stand back and admire it. Works for me! Always works for me. Yes he does.

Hey, two extra bedrooms out of a basement? Works for me, any chance of some pics when it’s finished?

Man, I had some catching up to do! I read “the new kid” in this post and thought WHAT? She’s pregnant? HA! I had to read a few more posts to understand what was going on.
I added you to my feed reader this time so I don’t keep falling behind.
