Happy Monday!!
January 5, 2004 |
Well I put on a good front with the whole Happy Monday title don’t I? LOL I always end up staying up way too late on Sunday nights and then dragging through Monday. Today was no different. When the alarm went off I felt like I had just gone to bed and hit the snooze 3 times before Jeff said “Are you ever getting out of bed?” LOL Guess I was bothering him getting up so early. I’m usually out of bed an hour before anyone else so that I can get my morning workout in. I barely made it today.
Olivia and I missed playing Candy Land yesterday as the grocery store was a zoo. We’re getting some snow and “wintry mix” today and people were just packing into the store stocking up. We’re not getting that much snow to speak of and frankly this is New England, snow is not a new phenomenon.
We did however get to bake 5 miniscule chocolate chip cookies in her new EZ Bake oven. It took forever for those @#$% things to bake and then they don’t even brown. They actually didn’t taste half bad though. It would have taken them 4 hours to bake if I had let Olivia take them out every 2 seconds to check them like she wanted to. LOL Apparently that plastic stick is pretty groovy to play with.
School and daycare started back to normal today. I have to share with you a little story about why it’s important not to spoil your children rotten. Here’s a little background. I have one little boy that we will call “A”. “A” has a lot of respiratory problems and came in with his machine for his Albuterol breathing treatments. He needed a treatment after lunch and when he was done we set it up and away he went.
I have another child here that we will call “B”. “B”’s parents do not say no to “B” or when they try and he throws a fit they cave - every time. Today at lunch after watching “A” with his machine, “B” announces that he is going to “make his Daddy buy him one of those machines.” I explained to “B” that the machine is not a toy; it is so that “A” can get medicine that helps him to breathe better. “B” responds to this with “I don’t care; I’m going to MAKE my Daddy buy me one.” I tell him that they are very expensive and that Daddy’s money would be better spent buying him toys than a breathing machine. “B” starts pounding the table with his fist and shouting “I want Daddy buy me one of those” over and over until I excused him from the table and brought him to the time-out chair because he would not listen, stop or calm down.
So I wonder what is wrong with parents that they have so over-indulged their children to the point that no other child can have anything at all without the spoiled child insisting on having it also. What does that teach the spoiled child? It teaches them to be selfish and materialistic. It also sets them up for a great fall when they are adults and start to learn the hard way over and over that “You can’t always get what you want”.
It’s sad to watch and difficult to control. You should have seen this kid when we were talking about Santa and how he can’t bring kids every single thing they want just some of their most requested items if he’s able. This kid shot me a look filled with daggers as if to say “You are kidding. I will get everything I want.” Can you imagine Christmas in that little boys home? No joy over what he has gotten, only tantrums over what he didn’t get. The parents don’t have a lot of money either and just go deeper and deeper into credit card debt without a thought to what that will do to the family eventually either.
If you are still with me thank you for reading. This is kind of a part of my new blog “persona” if you will. There are a number of things that just strike me throughout my days that really make me want to record them and reflect on them. I am off my soap box for today. Thanks for dropping in.

Hi Julie! I love this look and I know exactly what you mean about the country graphics thing. For me it was more about wanting to feel free to express myself however I chose to without worrying weather I was being family friendly or not, but I agree the sleek contemporary feel is refreshing too!
