Hi Ho, Hi Ho, To The Library We Go
:sun3-ani: Thank God the rain cleared up. I am taking all of the kids (7 in total) to the town library today (picture small house with one room for all books and one computer with Internet access) to sign them up for the summer reading program and pick out their first summer vacation book. We do this each year and the daycare kids especially love it. I don’t know how many of them get the opportunity to go to a library but they seem in awe of this remarkable system that allows them to take home a book for free and then bring it back next week and exchange it for a whole new book, for free! LOL Here’s my daughter Olivia (4 years old) trying to grasp the concept:
O: “It doesn’t cost you money? So you’re stealing the books.”
ME: “No Livs, you bring it up to the person that works at the library, they mark down that Olivia has this certain book and then they know where it is and who has it. You bring it back next week, give it to the lady at the desk and then you can take home another one.”
O: “Huh - that’s just crazy.”
They have very few books newer than, I’d say, 1972 but the have a stellar interlibrary loan program
I make heavy use of it in the summer - you can be sure. The drawbacks of life in a small town. I could get a library card in “the city” but it costs $50 a year and I just don’t get there often enough for it to be worth my while.
What’s everybody reading this summer? Leave me some recommendations in your comment/tag.

LOL @ Olivia! How cute.
I just started reading The Photograph by Penelope Lively. It’s good so far…

I am hoping to read the Proper Care and Feeding of husbands by Dr. Laura. I think I’m like 45 on the list of people waiting. Sigh. Other than that, I have an Amish fiction book I’m hoping to get in the mail soon by Beverly Lewis

I was going to read A Woman’s Walk with God, and still probably will, but now I have new motivation to read books about breast cancer survival. This is in light of my mom’s latest news.
Sorry to be such a downer right now.
