How A 3 Year Old Grieves
We’ve all had a hard time with the passing of our dog but my 3 year old daughter Elizabeth is not taking it well at all. She wants to know why Daddy didn’t bring Jake back home after he took him to the doctors. I’ve explained that Jake was very sick and there wasn’t any medicine that would make him better.
Last night when Jeff got home he went in and saw Elizabeth and the first thing she asked was
“Daddy did you bring Jake home?”
“No princess I didn’t. Jake’s in heaven with Peanut now.” (Peanut’s our cat that we had to have euthanized last year)
“I want you to bring Jake home now!”
“I can’t Elizabeth. Jake died and he’s not coming home again.”
“Then if you won’t bring Jake home you have to bring me home a new puppy tomorrow.”
Funny how they bounce back isn’t it?

Awww that is so sweet of her, so…is Jeff getting her a new puppy?

awwww… i always say that when our dog/s die I’m getting a new puppy right away. Of course I may feel differently when it actually happens. I know most people prefer to wait awhile for whatever reason.
Sometimes I ask myself, why do we get pets when we know they’re going to die sooner or later and break our hearts??? But I guess the love they share with us and the joy they bring us makes the heartbreak worth the while. I’m guessing. Cuz I haven’t been through the heartbreak part yet.

Fortunately for little kids, their mourning period is brief! Nothing like a new puppy to help everyone get over Jake! Of course we all know how much work they are too!
