It’s a Brand New Year
January 1, 2007 |
We stayed up with the older two kids last night until midnight. Olivia wanted to see the ball drop and to say she was let down by how anticlimactic it really was would be an understatement.
This morning we woke up and the power was out. A phone call to the power company revealed that there is a problem in ours and a neighboring town and electricity would be restored around 11:30am. It was 8:00am. So this is how you’re going to play 2007? Start out just like all of 2006 with a swift kick in the teeth eh?
So I threw my clothes on and drove up to Dunkin Donuts on semi-icy roads for coffee and donuts. I do have my priorities straight for us don’t I? LOL Coffee for mom and dad so they’ll be happy and treats for the kids. Happy New Year!
We did housework, took down the Christmas tree and played together. And this made me think about what I really want this year. I want a solid family. That’s what I want out of 2007. There are a lot of things I could resolve to do:
- Get more organized
- Spend more quality time with the kids
- Eat better as a family
- Exercise
- Lose weight
- Get a financial grip on our lives
And so on. But those are just the steps, the symptoms, the pieces, the means to the end. What I want is stability on a solid foundation. We are getting by, living day to day but we are not making decisions with integrity, thinking into the future and weighing out the long term. We have not been behaving like grown-ups, my husband and I, and our entire family is suffering for it.
So that’s my resolution for 2007. To take steps towards becoming mature enough to really run this family and lead it into the future with great success. No matter reactionary living, flying by the seat of our pants. It’s not working. And when things don’t work - they need to change.
2007 - the year of change.
