It’s Over

December 31, 2006 |

Christmas is over. This whole year is almost over. And I for one have crashed. These last few weeks have been so hectic and I have been sick through most of it. So I’m ready to start fresh.

First a few updates since it’s been a while. This one is home and healthy again and suffering the attention of the children. Nothing that a Keflex, Prednisone and Interferon cocktail and $190.00 wouldn’t fix. Honestly I am happy that we didn’t have to say goodbye to this cat on Christmas Eve. That would have sucked.

We were only up until 1am wrapping presents on Christmas Eve *ugh* and vowing by the end that of course we were never, ever going to do this again. Next year (famous last words) we were going to start wrapping earlier, not stay up until the wee hours of the morning. Blah, blah and more blah in our delirious, sleep deprived state. The kids had a fabulous day though and as usual it seemed to wipe away the earlier sense of despair.

I didn’t have to go back to work until Wednesday and by then I was so sick I could barely breathe. I would cough until I choked and gagged. Pretty picture huh? Jeff bribed me into going to the doctor’s (which I insisted I so did not have time to do) and after 90 minutes and a breathing treatment I was sent on my way with four prescriptions of my own along with a diagnosis of bronchitis and asthma brought on by the bronchitis. My visit and medicine was only $160.00 though. I totally cost less than my cat. He probably gave it to me too - the fleabag. (I can say that stuff now that I know he’s not going to die or anything). The Zithromax kills my intestines, the Prednisone makes me sleepy, the Albuterol makes me hyper and the cough syrup makes me sleep. Yeah, I’m really better off (?!?).

My family came over yesterday for the last Christmas celebration of the season and it was one of the best days of the last few weeks. The kids got really great, thoughtful, brain developing toys, games and supplies. My little artist got more markers, pencils, crayons, sketch pads, paints, books, etc. than she knows what to do with and she is thrilled. My little drama queen got a suitcase-worth wardrobe of dress up clothes, shoes, accessories, you name it. She has been innumerable characters already in the last 18 hours and I can’t even remember what name I’m supposed to call her anymore. My little tree-hugger was graced with every forest animal needed to have built her own animal kingdom. And my engineer-in-the-making was fortunate enough to receive oodles and oodles of building materials complete with steel, screws, gears, and the tiniest parts and pieces. His metropolis is about 1/4 completed and already takes up half the living room.

Today we go buy the school kids sneakers with my Christmas money I received yesterday because I am spent out. Not one nickel left in the bank. After that we’ll have left overs and fail yet again to stay up for the New Year. I’m contemplating the year gone by today and the year to come. I think later I’ll do a year in review and I’d encourage you to do the same. I’ve seen some in the blogosphere already and they’re pretty interesting to read. Go into your archives and pick out a couple of things to link to each month that sum it up. It’ll give you a good idea of just how much you’ve tackled in the last 365 days. If you decide to do this please let me know in the comments so I can go read.

Have fun tonight if you’re going out to celebrate or having friends and family over. Be safe! And Happy New Year.
