Look Ma I Think I Learned Something
March 27, 2004 |
:windcloud: I had to go to an all day conference for daycare today. Sucks to have to go on a Saturday but they usually get pretty good people to come in. This morning the presenters they had were awesome. They are musicians that write and perform children’s songs and they do so with such inflection and grand hand motions that they had no trouble getting all of us adults involved. It was a great way to warm up. Anyone that spends a lot of time with preschoolers should check out their website and materials, www.peterandellen.com. Weebie your kids would love to do these songs at morning circle. Check it out
Then I had to go on to a “Promoting Resiliency Through Environment” workshop and that one sucked. The presenter was SO boring it wasn’t funny. And I was able to identify all of these at risk factors for most of the kids in my program but not word one on what to do to help them. Sucked!!
Want to know the worst part of this conference, I think, by going to it for 6 hours I am done with my required training for the year. The whole year! VT only requires me to have the 6 hours and CPR certification. There should be so much more offered and required for us and it would greatly improve the quality of care. I looked around that auditorium today and could not believe some of the people I saw and over heard. I wouldn’t leave my children with them. It’s sad. And then people wonder why parents treat us like common, bubble gum chewing teenage babysitters.
One thing for anyone that brings their child to child care, never call them a babysitter. Not someone that’s really professional anyway. That’s a sure fire way to get your rates increased. We are child care providers, professionals, and for those of us that take our jobs seriously and work hard we deserve the job title, Child Care Provider. The ones that sit around and watch TV all day while the kids run wild, those are the babysitters.
Well I’m exhausted from my day. I’m off……..
