Well as you can see I changed the look of my blog again :) I’m just never satisfied. I really liked this one though because of the covered bridges in it. Vermont is well known for it’s abundance of and preservation of covered bridges throughout the state. It’s also a little nod to my Dad as he actually has a book that lists all of the covered bridges in the state and it is his goal to visit them all. Gotta love retirement.

We had a very busy weekend that started with a visit from Ashleigh and her new man on Friday night. What an experience (I’m trying to be kind here). They were supposed to be here at 6:30pm, I ordered enough food for an army and they showed up 2 hours late having already eaten. Strike one. He seems like a decent enough guy but let’s just say that you hope for more for your daughter, you know? He’s definitely not the pretty boy type she usually goes for though, that is for sure.

After visiting with us for a few minutes she starts going around the house, room to room, “checking things out”. In each room I hear the phrase “I’ll take that” and “I’ll take that off your hands for you” and “You guys don’t used it, can we have it?” We now have the reason that Ashleigh came to visit - they have an apartment without much stuff and need to furnish it. Strike two.

Then I find out from Jeff that she said something to him to the effect of “I suppose you want me to pay you back” referring to money she scammed us out of for an apartment last summer that she was supposed to pay us back for and then lost the apartment for lying to us, the landlord and everyone else involved. Jeff told her not to worry about it. Strike three on Ashleigh and strike 1, 2, and 3 on Jeff. Boy I was pissed at him for that.

And then she asked him for gas money for them to get back to where they live and he gave it to her and then didn’t understand why I was angry. I explained to him that he just made it so that there was no consequence whatsoever for taking our money. Nothing to stop her from trying again.

Jeff is a good man but he totally sucks when it comes to Ashleigh. he feels a lot of guilt where she is involved and completely overindulges her every whim, just like the other parents I write about that spoil their children rather than say no and upset them. He feels like he owes her something and she is happy to take whatever she can. I know I’m just the wicked step-monster but this is my family too and even if she’s not mine I should have a say.

We’ll see what happens.
