Papers From The Edge
When N got home from school yesterday he had a bunch of papers to give me. One was an envelope. I always get nervous when I see those notices with the parent names on the outside. It surely can’t be good. N is a good student, very bright, but prone to silliness and lack of focus in class. So I opened up the envelope to see what delightful news awaited me. What did I find?
N had his hearing and vision screening on Monday. He failed the vision test. They believe he needs glasses. His vision is testing at 20/50. *sigh* So I called and made an appointment for him at the optometrist at the end of the month. My son is falling apart. First the retainer and teeth extraction, now glasses. I think I’m going to keep him home when they do the scoliosis check. Do they even do those anymore? I remember having them done when I was in school.
So anyway, add another bill to my son’s upkeep. My husband and I were talking about how at least most of this stuff is happening while he’s still in grade school. I mean N is going from being one of the cool kids to being one of the glasses and retainer geeks. Not really, LOL, I’m just kidding about calling my son a geek. My husband did say that to him at the dinner table last night though and N just shrugged his shoulders and said “Dad, I’ll always be cool.” That’s my boy.

It really is good to find these things out early. And they do have some great looking glasses for kids.
Hang on to your pocketbook.

Ouch, braces and glasses can be expensive. Is there any way you can get these subsidised from the government because of his age?

If you’re worried about it, get him contacts. Do they do contacts for kids? What are you and your husband’s eyes like?

Well, he could always get contacts when he’s old enough.

My son is in highschool and he has never had the scoliosis test. Then again I’m 38 and I don’t recall them doing that to us either. I guess maybe each state is different.
