Pilgrimage
December 15, 2007 |
It’s 7am Saturday morning and for the first time in I don’t know how long I actually have a few minutes to myself. I’m tired – I didn’t sleep well last night at all. My husband’s grandson spent the night. He’s 3 years old and for the most part except for typical 3 year old behavior he was fine. My kids though? Sent them into a complete tailspin. They were out of control – fighting, whining, crying – what a disaster. I guess I have kept them too isolated from having people over and they just don’t know how to handle it.
Watching the grandson last night was a trade-off. My stepdaughter and her fiancé are going to take our kids overnight tonight so the husband and I can go make our annual Christmas shopping pilgrimage to the land of many retail thieves stores. This is the first time that we will actually be alone overnight since my son was born – and he’s our oldest. One of the real bonuses – besides being alone with my husband of course, is the fact that tomorrow morning before I pick the kids up I can actually wrap everything we bought. Which means this year – for the first time in 12 years – I won’t have to stay up until 1am in Christmas Eve wrapping presents. Nice.
Think warm thoughts for us today. It’s supposed to be wicked cold - way too cold for December in the Northeast. We’ll be lucky if it hits 15 degrees. Then tomorrow is the big Nor’easter. Which I’m hoping will mean a snow day on Monday - if I’m lucky.
Make it a great day!
