Sickness And Plastic Eggs
April 15, 2006 |
I woke up with a horrible sore throat this morning. Everyone has been sick with one of those lovely spring colds that are typically characterized by mucous oozing from every orifice on their face. I usually avoid these sicknesses but this time I don’t think I’m going to be so lucky. You know what’s really going to help it? We are going to an Easter Egg Hunt today. In the rain. And cold. Ugh.
The Easter Egg Hunt is a big annual event though that we wouldn’t have the kids miss for anything. My mil’s husband has a large extended family that lives in big farm country. Every year they invite everyone in the family and all of their extended families to come over to the main house. There is a huge potluck dinner with 4-5 banquet tables covered with food. After dinner, all of the kids are led out to one of the pastures that has been covered with thousands of plastic eggs. They start working on the eggs a month before the event and everyone in the immediate family is responsible for filling 100 or so. There are so many eggs that every child is guaranteed to get their fill. Egg contents are emptied upon return to the main house and the plastic eggs are put back in a large box to be stored for next year.
Some years it’s freezing cold, some years it’s raining and every year it’s guaranteed to be muddy. And that usually guarantees that at least one of my kids will fall down and get themselves covered with mud. Oh well, at least they have fun. The afternoon is usually topped off by a visit from the Easter Bunny. He rides in on a golf cart (LOL) and is usually carrying a basket filled with stickers and pencils and toys for all of the kids. After all this excitement the car ride home is almost always silent. I’ll post pictures tonight when we get home.

I hate to do this here on a comment for this post, when you are not feeling well and all…

I just have to thank you, I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed by meal menus for my Squink and I found your day care menus, then it all became clear again. Just thank you!
