The S Word
December 3, 2004 |
We woke up to some snow on the ground this morning. Not much, just enough to make the kids giddy and me crabby. I just don’t love the snow like I used to when I was a kid. There was nothing better than a snowstorm, especially the first one, because it was so fun to play in.
When there was just a little bit we would make footprints all over, leaving our mark on the world. When we got a nice Nor’Easter that would dump feet of snow on us we would have snowball fights and build snow forts and go sledding and make snow angels everywhere we dropped. It meant school was closed and we could go skiing and be outside all day. We’d come in with our cheeks as rosy as the Campbell soup kid and we’d drink hot chocolate with LOTS of mini marhsmallows in it.
Now as a grown up snow means shoveling and driving on crappy roads and cold weather and high heating oil bills. It means throwing on all those cumbersome layers of clothes when I’d really rather just be in a t-shirt and shorts and barefoot. And worst of all it means no school. Which until I close the daycare doors - means a bunch of extra, mouthy, school age children all day long. Did you hear me? I said ALL. DAY. LONG.
Sometimes snow sucks when you’re a grown up. But then you look at your kids out in the new snow and you see this face and it doesn’t quite suck so bad.

Yes that’s right. Do you see that weather mini??? That’s a snowflake. It’s been snowing all morning. We are supposed to have 3-4 inches of snow by tomorrow morning. Tomorrow. October. 3-4 inches of snow. What?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Sorry I’m just in shock and had to post real quick about the weather. The guy that was supposed to put my chimney liner in says he will do part this weekend and the rest the next weekend. That means no woodstove for 2 more weeks
Well I am super busy today. The local schools are closed for 3 days and I have 11 children all day each day for the next 3 days. Those 11 include my own 4 but boy oh boy is it loud and crazy here. I am almost due for my next dose of Advil. Thankfully nap time will be here in another hour and a half. LOL
Have a wonderful day!! Until next time…

Ok, I have to admit, when I saw “the S word” I was not thinking of snow. Am I a bad Prov 31 woman?
Your little girl is sooo sweet!!!
That’s an ADORABLE face! I keep saying that I want to move up north, at least farther up north to where we might actually get some snow! But I want to live out in the middle of nowhere so I don’t have to worry about shoveling snow as much as suburbia or the folks in the city do….20 acres should be enough! Seeing as we *used* to get one ‘good’ snow a year…..I’m sure that I’d love every minute of it! To be a southern girl, I really am not fond of the heat much anymore!
I agree, snow totallu blows when your a grownup
The shoveling and driving in it aren’t as fun as sledding.
That picture made me smile and giggle - she is SO CUTE! This year after our first snow, I asked Andrea if she planned on going sledding. She said, “Nah, the negatives outweigh the positives now.” (She’s 13). I completely agreed with her.
