Signs that my brain is fried this morning? I just spent the last 20 minutes clipping coupons at 5:30am. And strangely enough I can hear this steady hum in my ears that sounds much like a television channel when it’s off the air. You know the sound I’m talking about? Do channels even go off the air any more? Or has capitalism and mass marketing become so pervasive in our lives that there is never a missed opportunity to sell someone something?

So in the spirit of brain fog I thought I would just share a few things from my weekend. I spent Saturday with my best friend. We have known each other since 1st grade and have been best friends since 7th. That’s 23 years. And I love her to death and can’t imagine my life without her. She’s the one person in my daily life that listens to me and understands me and helps me get through things without ever passing judgment on me. She’s moving down South in a year and I will surely shrivel up and wither away when she goes.

She also gets my undying love for letting me borrow her super colossal sized dog crate for Tucker. We have been keeping him in the bathroom over night so he doesn’t tear apart the house and it was just not working. He would whine and bang on the door and tear up the toilet paper. I believe he is single handedly responsible for my 4 year old having accidents in her bed overnight as she was afraid of letting him out of the bathroom and not getting him back in there without waking one of us up. That’s all gonna change now. He sleeps all night in the crate without one sound. It’s nice to have our bathroom back.

We were bitten by the home improvement bug this weekend. After many years of boycott, mostly because he’s always busy working on other people’s houses, Jeff has encouraged me - encouraged people! - to get paint chips to start painting the walls. We have talked seriously about ripping out our carpet and putting in wood laminate floors. And in my search I found this floor

Cherry Floor

Isn’t it gorgeous? We would be putting it in my dining room, living room and hallway that leads to the bedrooms. *sigh* I love it and have considered raiding my emergency fund to get it now instead of saving for it. You know what we have down now? 30 year old avocado green carpeting. That’s been there for the 10 years we’ve lived here. I am so beyond ready to rip this stuff up.

Painting will commence in the next few weeks. I’m a green, brown, cranberry color scheme person. We have all white walls, which my husband loves, that I hate. So boring and dirty looking all the time. I need color! And I have even started buying fresh flowers for my dining room table. When we bought the house the inspector told us that the furnace would need to be replaced within 10 years - that was it. We ended up having to replace the furnace, the roof and the pump in the well in the first 5. As well as continual plumbing and electrical. It tapped us out financially and spiritually and we have neglected our house over the years since. Things are finally looking up for us.

So how was your weekend?
