We’re Going Backwards

:cldrain-drk: My daughter Lauren is 15 months old. She has always been a happy baby, a champion eater and sleeper and easy as can be. Until now.

The last 4 days it’s been a bitch to get her to go to sleep at night. This is the same child that you could put in her crib wide awake, she would hug you and then rest her head on her little pillow and fall asleep. Until now. Did I mention that it was until now?

Now she screams bloody murder like someone’s sticking her with a hot poker. When I try to console her she slaps at me, throws anything I offer her on the floor and continues to scream. I have fed her, given her drinks, changed her, medicated her. Nothing, nada, zippo, zero.

She is also doing this throughout the night. She is waking up 3-4 times EVERY night and screeching and kicking and biting and slapping. It is an all out assault. And I’ve had it. I’m exhausted and running out of patience.

Tonight she went to sleep in her swing. You know the battery operated jobs that they are supposed to grow out of at like 6 months of age? Not my Lauren ;) 15 months old, 35 pounds, sharing clothes with her 2 yo sister and she still loves her swing. She rocks it around like a carnival ride but it still does the trick to put her to sleep. *sigh*

Do they make toddler swings?? I just might need one.

Does she have her eyes open but look terrified? Then it might be night terrors and not acting out. They are like nightmares, but the child moves about.

If it keeps happening though, I mean next week and she is still waking screaming, it may pay to take her to the doc. An undiagnosed ear infection or something similar may hurt enough to wake her, but if she is pretty pain tolerant she may ignore it during the day.

    hugs.

I was going to say welcome to the terrible two’s (early) but I’m wondering if she’s getting teeth? Or frightened? Or not feeling well?

You poor thing! You must be so tired.

Our pediatrician recommends the book "Helping Your Child Sleep Through the Night" by Joanne Cuthbertson. Maybe you could check if your library system has it?

    Good luck. :doze:

What a riot…using the swing. My little guy is barely over 20 pounds ..I should try that next time!!

Hope she settles down for you..is she cutting her 2 year molars already? Gosh don’t we use cutting teeth as an excuse for everything? lol
Hopefully she grow out of it..FAST!

    Oh yikes, that’s no fun.
Lots of good thoughts already here, teeth, night terrors, etc. Could be a growth spurt or even that she really is just testing her limits a little, but as suggested if its really out of character for her, maybe a visit to the dr. just to rule out any REAL problems?

Does not sound like fun at all.
I generally have use (no laughing) frozen peas and corn when I think that my kiddos are teething. I have a feeling that’s what going on.
My son started the denial of food when he turned about 13 months just because he wanted to be the boss. Probably not the case where you are concerned!!
    Here’s to a good night/day sleep
